"I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live."

Psalm 104:33

Sing God’s Praises!

I listen to Word FM on the radio when I am in the car.  The other day when I was listening on the way to the office, they said there are ways we can start the day that will actually help us have a better attitude and have a better day.  They had heard that giving praise and singing are great ways to start the day.

I’m not sure where they heard this, but I agree!  Praising God can give us an entire new outlook on life.  Even if you are not a singer, music has a way of uplifting our spirits (if we are listening to the right kind of music).

The very next day, I was watching the 700 Club on TV.  The woman on the show had a brain tumor.  It was inoperable because of where it was located, and any attempt to remove it could cause serious brain damage.  She rallied her friends and family and started praying for God’s healing.  She also started radiation treatments.  Three months in, nothing had improved.  She didn’t give up hope, but kept on praying.  Six months into her treatments, still nothing had improved. In fact, it seemed to be getting worse.

She heard the Lord tell her to stop praying and start praising.  She no longer prayed for healing, but gave God praise, no matter what the outcome.  She rallied her family and friends again and told them to stop praying, and start praising.  Reluctantly, the family agreed.  They didn’t understand why she would want them to stop praying for healing, but they trusted that she had heard from the Lord.  For the next three months, her friends and family praised the Lord.  At the end of those three months, she was due for another check-up.  At that time, she received the news that the tumor was dead.

How many days do we get up complaining?  How many times do we fail to begin our day without praising God and giving thanks?  How many times do we get so busy asking that we never get around to giving God praise?  When we focus on the good things around us, we focus less on the things that aren’t exactly as we had hoped.  When we sing God’s praises, He honors our hearts and encourages us and lifts our spirits.

David praises God in the midst of being chased by his enemies, “But I will sing of your strength, in the morning, I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.  O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.” (Psalm 59:16-17)

Start your day with a new attitude.  Before anything else comes from your lips, remember to give God praise.  He is your fortress in time of trouble.  He is your comfort and your strength.  He is your salvation.  He is the Creator of all things.  He is good!  He is faithful!  The list can go on and on.  What’s on your list?

See you at the church!
