"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Jeremiah 29:11

“Seek Him with All Your Heart”

One of the things I look forward to when I travel with Nick is my quiet time.  He has meetings to attend, and I get to enjoy whatever part of the country we are visiting.  Usually I do this with a good book.  The books I take are often recommendations from fellow pastors, written by Christian authors, and are an opportunity for me to seek God and spiritual growth.

This last trip, I left my books at home on the counter.  It was the last bag I was supposed to grab, and I forgot it.  On the way to the airport, I realized what I had done, but it was too late to go back.  We were already behind schedule.  Once we got to the airport and were all checked in and through security, my first stop was the bookstore.  Okay, God.  What do you have for me?

On the shelf was a #1 International Best Seller, ” The Happiness Equation: Want Nothing + Do Anything = Have Everything.”  The book is written by Harvard graduate Neil Pasricha.  I was intrigued, so I bought it.

In his book, Neil Pasricha quotes Charles Swindoll, a famous evangelic Christian pastor, author, educator and radio preacher who broadcasts a show to more then 2,000 radio stations around the world in 15 languages.  Here is the full quote from the book:

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failure, than success, than what other people think or say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company… a church… a home… a friendship.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play on the one we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens and 90% how I react to it.  And so it is with you.  We are in charge of our attitudes.”

Thanks, God! I needed that.   Many of you know one of my favorite passages in Scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  There is more good stuff in the verses that follow.  “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29:12-13

God is faithful, even when we forget our books.  Seek Him with all your heart.  He wants you to pray to Him.  He wants to listen to you.  And He promises that when we do, we will find Him.

See you at the church!
