Meet AJ!

In the June newsletter, I shared with you that Mike Coleman would be stepping down from the “Director of Youth Ministries” position.  Mike has been serving us faithfully for many years, and we are grateful that he will continue to be one of our volunteer youth leaders.  He loves the Lord, and he loves our kids.

In recognizing the need to minister to the next generation, the elders had been praying and seeking God’s direction for our church.

You were all invited to a congregational meeting which was held on June 25th so that we could discuss what was happening and together decide our next steps.  At that meeting, there was a lot of conversation, and a motion was made to move forward with creating and filling a part-time, salaried, youth/young adult position.  The motion was seconded and unanimously approved by all in attendance.  (For more details of this meeting, minutes are available at the church office.)

After that meeting, a committee was formed to interview potential candidates.  The position was posted through the Churches of God Eastern Regional Conference newsletter.  Two candidates applied and, after each interview, we were very excited with what both of them had to offer.  It was not an easy decision.  After discussion and prayer from the committee and the church, a decision was made.

Have you met AJ?  AJ Smith is our new Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries.  His official start date is October 1st.

AJ served as the Director of Family and Youth Ministry at the Camp Hill Church of God.  He also served as the Activity Leader at Camp Yolijwa for six summers. He knows many of our youth and young adults, and they know him.  He has a passion for teaching youth and working with others to build programming for youth, young adults and families.

AJ has a B.A. in Adventure Education from Messiah College.  The skills he learned through this program will be a great way for him to reach young people for the Lord.

He will lead our youth program along with the adult volunteers and student leadership team.  Look for him on Wednesday nights in the youth room.  He will participate in the young adult class on Sunday mornings with Nick.  He will have office hours on Mondays and attend our council and elders meetings.  I’m sure you will see more of him and his family as they get settled in.

AJ and his family are coming to us from the Caring Community Church of God.  Please pray for them as they transition into our church family.

See you in church!

Pastor Stef
