“Death is Just the Beginning of a New Life”

We all know that death is part of life.  One day our earthly bodies will no longer function, and we will take our last breath.  But as an elder reminded me last night, death is really just the beginning of a new life.  This is why, as Christians, we can celebrate when someone we love goes home to be with the Lord.  Although Peggy Keller took her last breath on earth on Sunday, February 18th, she is finally seeing Jesus face to face.  This is something she has wanted for some time.

“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.  For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.  According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.  For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And so we will be with the Lord forever.  Therefore encourage one another with these words. – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

We will miss our dear friend, Miss Peggy.  We will miss her smile and laugh.  We will miss the joy that she brought into our lives.  But we will have the wonderful memories of the blessing she was to each one of us.

We have all had the privilege of knowing people of great faith.  It was only recently that we said goodbye to our dear friend, Don Knotts.  How blessed we are that God allowed our paths to cross.  That he brought us all to the same place at the same time to encourage one another in our faith.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of faith.” – Hebrews 12:1-2

What great witnesses and examples these two were to me and I’m sure to many others.  As we celebrate their lives, let us be encouraged by the race they ran.  Let us run as well as they did.  And let us remember to fix our eyes on Jesus.  Thank you, Don.  Thank you, Miss Peggy.  You are a blessing to us all.

See you at the church!
