A Season to Celebrate

Lent is a difficult time of the year for me.  As we enter into the Easter season, sometimes I forget why I am feeling sad, almost depressed.  Then I remember that it happens to me every year.  We gather each week to celebrate a risen Savior.  We have joy and peace in our lives. because Jesus rose from the dead.  That is worth celebrating!  But for this season, the crucifixion, the sacrifice that had to be made for my sins, weighs heavy on my heart.

The miracle for me is that each year, this weight is magically lifted on Easter morning!  Praise God that Jesus died to take away the sins of the world, and that on the third day he defeated death and rose from the dead!  This is why we gather each Sunday to celebrate!

How wonderful it is that we can spend more of our time worshipping and praising God than feeling the weight of our sins and the weight of the cross on our shoulders.  “Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.'” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Easter represents to us new life.  “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them, and He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17-19)

As we celebrate this Easter season, and the new life we have in Christ, we also celebrate with those individuals who have joined our church family. Welcome! Chris and Marissa Arena; Keith and Kim Walz; and Courtney and Mackenzie Spickler.  We are excited that God has called you to be a part of the Yocumtown Church of God family.

We also celebrate with the families who have chosen to present their children for the Lord’s blessing.  We pray for you and with you as you raise your children, teaching them about God’s grace and the sacrifice of Jesus who saves us from our sins and brings us home to God. Christopher and Marissa Arena dedicated their children: Gina Christopher; GiaBella Marie; and Gianni Joseph Arena.  Curtis Wintermyer and Keely-Shae Geedy dedicated their son, Deegan Wintermyer.  And Chelsea Joe Fies dedicated her daughter, Kyianah MaeRose Fies.

Congratulations to Chelsea Jo Fies on your baptism.  May God continue to bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you!

See you at the church!
