Outreach

Yocumtown Church of God has always felt led to reach out to the surrounding community, whether through the clothes closet/food pantry that operated until 2008, or through participation with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s “Adopt a Highway” program.

YCOG also provides an annual Vacation Bible School program, prepares holiday gift baskets for students and families in need, and participates in the local RedCAP collection program, Operation Christmas Child and New Life for Girls Christmas Giving.  Not least of all, we are friends and family to our  “Adopted Grandmother” at the Church of God Home in Carlisle, PA.

The Little Hands Nursery school has operated within the YCOG building for 18 years. For the sports enthusiasts in the community, YCOG opens up its Faith Life Center gymnasium several times throughout the year for basketball tournaments and volleyball.

Joy El Ministries Released Time Program

YCOG participates in the Pennsylvania-approved Released Time Bible Program, sponsored by Joy El Ministries. This program allows public school  students to be dismissed from school for religious instruction.  Students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades are transported once weekly to YCOG on Wednesday afternoons. Classroom activities include singing, a Bible lesson and reciting selected scripture passages during small group time. Students can earn points for scripture memorization, Bible lessons, daily devotions and service projects; those who achieve 300 points earn a free week of summer camp at Camp Joy El.

Joy El Ministries is a non-denominational Christian organization focusing on evangelizing, encouraging and equipping individuals for active ministry. “Grow-It-Forward” Garden

YCOG sponsors and oversees the operation of a 40′ X 80′ vegetable garden, called the “Grow-It-Forward” garden, located on the church’s property. All produce from the garden is donated to charitable organizations, including RedCap (PA Food Bank) and the Downtown Daily Bread, a Christian organization run by the Pine Street Presbyterian Church, which provides lunch to approximately 100 homeless and needy individuals in the Harrisburg area every day.

Maintained by numerous dedicated church and community members, the garden produces over 2,000 pounds of fresh organically-grown vegetables every year.  As the garden continues to grow, so does the need for volunteer workers and donations of plants and supplies.
