Children and Youth

Pioneer Clubs

In a society where children have endless choices of activities, friends and places to go, we need a way to ensure they are getting well rounded experiences with trustworthy adults and peers who are good influences. The leaders at Yocumtown Church of God are equally concerned about young people in our church and surrounding community. This is why we offer the Pioneer Clubs at our church during the school year.

The Wednesday Night Pioneer Club is a unique blend of fun and Bible study for kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade. We adopted the Pioneer Clubs program because it focuses on all the areas in which children grow – social, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. Every week club members take part in projects, games, singing and skill-building activities such as drama, personal care, hiking, carpentry and sportsmanship.

YCOG offers three Pioneer Clubs: the Scooters for the tikes (age 4), taught by Connie Gruber; the Pathfinders for the younger kids in Kindergarten through second grade, taught by Amy Collier, and the Trailblazers for children in third through fifth grade, taught by Shari Petrides. Important elements of both clubs include Bible exploration and memory, where children learn about God’s love, Christian values, and how to apply the Bible to every part of life. Club leaders are church members who love and enjoy working with children.

The Pioneer Clubs meet from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evenings. Click here for more information about the Pioneer Programs.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School, commonly known as VBS, is a crucial element of  YCOG’s ministry to its children and youth, and is enthusiastically received by its members and surrounding community.  Each summer, children ages 4 through 5th grade gather at Yocumtown Church of God for five days of fellowship, bible lessons, crafts, indoor and outdoor games, singing and dancing…and just plain fun.  It is a place where participants can make many new friends, reunite with old ones, exercise their God-given talents, build new skills and grow their faith in Jesus Christ.

VBS is a large undertaking and requires much planning and preparation for a successful program. We welcome volunteers who are able and willing to participate in various capacities, including teachers, group leaders, set builders, music leaders, photographers, kitchen assistants, production technicians, and more.

We look forward to another great week of Vacation Bible School in August 2014!  This year’s theme is “Weird Animals – Where Jesus’ Love is One-of-a-Kind.”weird-animals-vbs-2014

Youth Group

The Yocumtown Church of God youth group meets every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00. All youth in grades 6 through 12 are invited to come. The activities change from week to week, but there is always time to learn about God and our relationship with Him. We also have snacks and time to just hang out with our friends. Our full-size gym is the perfect place for games and sports activities, including basketball and volleyball. Look for special activities in the events calendar.

Come meet our youth leaders, Mike and Heather Coleman. They are great — they love the Lord and have a compassionate heart for teenagers. What a wonderful couple to have working with your kids!
