"For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."

Mother Teresa

“He loves. He loves. He loves.”

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are honest, people may cheat you.  Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness, people may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.  Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough.  Give your best anyway.

For you see, in the end, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.”

— Mother Teresa

As I read the words of Mother Teresa, I was again reminded of the true character of God.  GOD IS LOVE.

This past month, I finished reading the book, “The Misunderstood God,” by Darin Hufford.  Although I did not grow up in the church environment that Darin writes about in his book, I believe that many people have the same misunderstanding of God’s character that Darin had for most of his life.

Using this book as the foundation, I hope we can gain an awareness of how the world views God and maybe some of the ways we have misunderstood God ourselves. Once we know who God is not, together we can embrace the truth about who He is.

As we learn more and more about God’s character, it’s important for us to take the time to look into our own hearts and closely examine them to see if God’s character is being reflected in us.  It’s not enough to just know God and know who He is.  We then need to allow Him to mold us to look more like Him: patient, kind, not jealous or boastful or proud, not self-seeking or easily angered, not delighting in evil, but rejoicing in the truth!

We see God’s love for us demonstrated through the sending of His Son, Jesus.  This is what God does.  He loves.  He loves.  He loves.

We will take a break in the “Misunderstood God” series beginning November 29th at our “Hanging of the Greens” service.  Bring an ornament that represents the nativity to the service that day to hang on our Christmas tree.

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good…
