The Bucket List

A few years ago, a movie came out called, “The Bucket List.” The main plot follows two terminally ill men (portrayed by Nicholson and Freemen) on a road trip with a wish list of things to do before they “kick the bucket.”

I’ve referred to this “bucket list” concept in church a few times. As Easter approaches, and the death and resurrection of Jesus are remembered, I can’t help but reflect on the items I think would have been on His “bucket list”:

  1. Become a human
  2. Love people
  3. Spend my life praying
  4. Live a life without sin
  5. Disciple people
  6. Heal the sick
  7. Forgive everyone
  8. Spend time eating and sharing with my closest friends
  9. Serve others
  10. Thank my Heavenly Father
  11. Take on the sins of the world
  12. Carry a cross
  13. Sacrifice my life so others might live
  14. Defeat death

Jesus’ life consisted of one selfless act after another. His servant attitude didn’t change as He approached His death. Before Jesus was arrested, He prayed. He prayed for Himself, and He prayed for all believers, including you.

I know I can’t defeat death, but Yay God! that Jesus has done that for me, and I have been given the gift of eternal life. I can’t take on the sins of the world. But what about the rest of this list? If Christ is in us, isn’t this what more of our lives should look like?

“What’s on your “bucket list?”
