Serving Our Community

It is a wonderful blessing to see the church come together to do ministry.  Last night, I got to see the church in action.  Many people of all ages came together to help get the church ready for the spring and summer ministries that will happen here at YCOG.  (Even the young children were wiping down the pews with their sock cloths.)  While we can never be completely inward focused, there is a time when we need to make sure our house in in order.

We have been talking about discipleship.  Part of discipleship is serving: serving our community, serving one another, and serving alongside of each other as a community of believers.  We are all called to put our faith into practice.

This was demonstrated last night.  If you were unable to be a part of this ministry, there will be more opportunities to serve in the near future.  Remember, no service or ministry is beneath you.  Jesus himself was humble  enough to wash the feet of His disciples.  You, too, are called to serve.

” The end of all things is near.  Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.  Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.  Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.  Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.  If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.  To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever.  Amen.” (1 Peter 4:7-11)

We serve so that God may be praised.  As we look forward to the coming months, please be in prayer about how , when and where God is calling you so serve.

May 12: New Life For Girls spring flower planting.  For more information, contact Mark Schuch.

May 30: Homeless Hospitality Ministry.  The youth, young adult, and adult Wednesday classes have partnered with Isaiah 61 Ministries to provide a meal for 30 or so people who are in need.  Everyone in the church is welcome to come and help  prepare the food, serve, or just sit and talk with our guests.

June-August: Camp YoLiJwa needs counselors, kitchen volunteers, and day workers.  To see how you can serve, contact the Camp!

July 8-12: Vacation Bible School.  This is a big outreach to our community.  We have had approximately 50 kids attend our VBS program every summer.  We can’t do this vital ministry without the help of the church family.  Please contact Rosemary Swigert, Lara Bare, Elizabeth Castro, AJ or Pastor Stef and let them know how you would like to serve this summer with VBS.

See you at the church!
