Praise God for His Creation!

Nick and I just returned from a lovely weekend in New Mexico.  We started our journey in Albuquerque, where Nick attended a few meetings, and I got some much appreciated downtime.  After his meetings ended, we drove a little north and spent a couple days in Santa Fe.  What a wonderful part of the country we were able to explore and experience!

God has surrounded us with so much beauty, but we don’t often see it.  The world around us becomes familiar and comfortable, and we can sometimes lose our sense of awe.

While hiking through the rocks and mountains of NM, I thought of David hiding in the caves from King Saul.  I’ve never been to Israel, so it was only my imagination that brought me to the story of David.

I also thought of the verses that talk about creation praising God.  “Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth.” (Psalm 98:8-9)  “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace, the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” (Isaiah 55:12)

As I gazed upon the splendor of the mountains and the desert, it was as though they were worshiping their Creator.

One of the ways God speaks to us is through His creation.  When you take the time to look at the beauty of the world He provided, do you allow your imagination to take you to the Scriptures?  Do you see how creation is giving praise to its maker?

I know life is busy.  There is always that one more thing to do.  But I want to encourage you to slow down.  You’ve heard the phrase, “Take time to smell the roses.”  More importantly, I hope your remember to “Be still and know that I am God.”  Get up early and watch the sun rise.  Go outside and catch the sunset.  Breathe in the breath of God and give Him praise for who He is.  He is surrounding you with His glory.  What a great reason for us to be thankful.

Luke records the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem.  He says,

“The whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen…Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples!’ ‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.'”
