“… Just Take a Walk!”

I recently received the following email from our conference office encouraging us to participate in a Harvest Prayer Walk on October 8th:

“Prayer puts feet to our response to the many spiritual, mental and physical needs we see in our communities.  God is calling his people to pray for our cities, our towns, our villages.  Plan now to take the challenge to step out and pray on October 8th.”

The idea is simple… just take a walk.  You don’t have to organize a group (although you can) or hand out flyers.  You just have to take a walk.  Walk in your neighborhood or around the block.  If all you can do is walk down your street, go for it.  And while you’re walking, have a heart-to-heart with God.  Pray for the people who live in the homes you see.  Pray for their marriages.  Pray for their children.

Pray for the schools they attend.  Pray that they have church family where they experience God’s love.  Pray for their salvation.  Pray for anything that comes to your mind while you are taking this walk.  The verse the conference included in their email is the very same verse we have hanging in our sanctuary:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14

There is a lot of power in that verse, and there is a lot of power in our prayer.  Let’s accept the challenge that the conference has put out there.  You don’t have to do much… just take a walk.
