Being in Christ

What does it mean to “be in Christ?” Not many people know how to just be. Maybe you believe that you have to do something to earn your way to heaven. Or maybe no one ever explained it to you.

We’ve started a series on what Being in Christ means. Using the Words of Jesus, we will cover the following topics:

  • Being in God’s Word
  • Being in Prayer
  • Being in Worship
  • Being in Solitude
  • Fasting
  • Celebrating
  • Resting/the Sabbath

“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

On October 13th, we will worship outside on the church property. Luke 15:23 says, “Let us eat and celebrate!” Please plan to attend this time where we will gather together and celebrate what Jesus has done for us.

In the “Red Letter Challenge,” Zach Zehner quotes Robert Hotchkins from the University of Chicago, who says, “Christians ought to be celebrating constantly. We ought to be preoccupied with parties, banquets, feasts, and merriment. We ought to give ourselves over to veritable orgies of joy because we have been liberated from the fear of life and the fear of death. We ought to attract people to the church quite literally by the fun there is in being a Christian.”

Did you ever think about Christianity in that way?

I hope that we come together as the family of God on October 13th to eat and celebrate. Let’s invite everyone we know – family, friends and neighbors – to the party and have fun.

Some ideas I have so far: chili cook-off; old-fashioned cake walk; yard games; campfire with s’mores; pies; bounce houses; and horses. What ideas do you have as we celebrate together? Please contact the church office by phone or email with your ideas and how you would like to be a part of this special day.

C’ya at the church.
