“For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

Be Grateful

All of us are in desperate need of God’s grace.  The good news is, there is no sin too big that God did not die for on the cross.  How wonderful for us!

I read a story about a 90-year old woman who was told she only had a couple of weeks to live.  As she was facing her death, she said to her husband, “I’ve been in church my whole life.  I’ve served on every committee.  But I don’t know if I’ve done enough good things to enter into heaven.  I don’t know where I’m going when I die.”

What a sad story about a woman who had spent over nine decades in church and never really understood the “Good News.”  She spent her life trying to earn her way into heaven by what she had done, and even after that was not sure she had done enough.

Reality is this, we are all sinners.  We all make mistakes.  Many of us try to look good on the outside, but on the inside there is a bunch of stuff we are not so proud of.  Other people might even be intimated because they assume they must be the only ones who are such a mess.

The truth is, “For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Eph. 2:8-9

God doesn’t want you to be stuck in your past.  He loves you so much that He nailed your mess to the cross.  He wants you to experience His grace.

This month, we are going to be looking through Scripture and talking about forgiveness.  We will be challenged to repent and believe and receive God’s grace.  We will also be challenged to look at our own hearts and how we forgive others.

Paul writes to the church, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Eph. 4:32

This thanksgiving, be grateful and praise God for the grace that has been given to you, and after you receive it, maybe you will be able to pass that same grace on to someone else.
